Anthropocene is a word for the current period, dominated by anthropos [Greek = human being].
Symbiocene is a new word for a new era of living together, of togethering life, on Planet Humus, our motherearth, who nourishes and homes all living beings.
"The dominance and hubris of humans has taken us to the brink of what has been called the sixth great extinction (biodiversity) and is now forcing us to gaze into the abyss of the seventh great extinction … humanity," Glenn Albrecht wrote in 2021.
In 2011 he'd already been thinking about this so much that a new word popped up on his experience horizon.
☥ Symbiocene ☥
Having grown a philosophically trained mind 〰 and being symbiophile and eco-aware by nature 〰 Glenn Albrecht's creative line of thinking doesn't stop there.
"To avoid such a fate, creative thinking is urgently needed to guide us and provide inspiration to all generations, but especially to the young," he leaps to an inspiring call to creative action. "I argue that creative thinking, inspired by the science of symbiosis, can lead us into the Symbiocene, a new era that nurtures all aspects of being human in a world we share with all other beings." Glenn Albrecht

Stumbling over too many new words on this page?
That's because we're travelling into a new era
〰 we're not only heading for the Symbiocene
〰 over here, in these wild-word-woods
〰 also known as the symbiotope of Symbiopaedia, we are already there.
Remember travelling to another country, where people speak a different language?
Visiting the symbiotope of Symbiopaedia is similar 〰 with one minor difference 〰 instead of travelling to another place, we're travelling to another time.
In a different time, people use different words too.
Or they might use the same words in a different way.
Happens all over the spacetime continuum.
Know what it's like having a powerful or overwhelming experience and can't talk about it?
"You have to have a language for your experience," philosopher Sophie Chappell writes.
"You need the right words. Otherwise you can’t talk about it, you’re basically mute."
Chappell might be talking about some difficult stuff that happened to her in the past, or that's happening right now.
In the Symbiocene, the same is true for experiences of the future.
〰 past, present, future, good, or bad 〰 it doesn't matter.
These are all labels to help us navigate the Anthropocene.
In the Symbiocene we need new names, new words, new meanings for familar words, because everything is happening somewhere else 〰 in the so-called blue yonder 〰 a zone outside the tempospatial scenes in which we 'normally' operate (whatever is 'normal' in the Anthropocene)
Wondering how we might speak in a new era – when the Anthropocene becomes 'the past' and we live in the Symbiocene?
Symbiopaedia is a paradise for words

can't wait to meet some symbiocenic verbionts?
here is a glimpse into the florilegium of the Symbiocene
adulting — [NL – started appearing on Twitter since 2008] in the Anthropocene, used in the sense of “doing the things that adults regularly have to do”. In the Symbiocene, adulting means being or becoming an adult, the process of growing from adolescing towards maturity, passing through adulthood, being immersed in and embracing adulthood.
belonging – [compound of be- + longing = stong desire, yearning] literally longing to be. In the Symbiocene, the process of being closely connected with things, beings (symbionts), or places; relating to in kinship and symbiosis
compete – [from Latin com = together + petere = to strive, seek, attack] in the Anthropocene, a shared activity of two or more symbionts who fight against each other for access to the same resources. These entities share a common space and food sources, while challenging each other's survival. In the Symbiocene, competing is a shared activity where both or all symbionts fight for the protection of their symbiotope and survival of their symbiosphere.
dyspepsinoia – [VB – portmanteau of dyspepsia + paranoia / Greek dys- = weak + pépsis = digestion + nous = mind] difficulties to digest experiences, impressions, perceptions, sensations etc.
florilegium – [from Latin flor = flower + legere = gather] a semiotic garden space for nurturing and tending words, so they can flourish and regenerate as verbionts.
Symbiocene – [GA - from Greek sym = together + bios = life + kainos = new] a time period marked by human participation in the evolutionary processes of symbiogenesis; the new era after the Anthropocene
symbiotope – [VB - portmanteau of symbiocene + biotope = the livingspace of a community of symbionts] a localised symbiogenic spacetime continuum nurturing the Symbiocene
verbiont – [VB - from Latin verbum + biont = living being] a semiotic symbiont in the Symbiocene
verbifugium – [VB from Latin verbum + fugium = refuge] a refuge for endangered verbionts
wondering what all those words have to do with the Symbiocene?
wording those experiences we've been struggling to express in the Anthropocene helps in two ways
in negative experiencing, something bad has already happened 〰 the right word helps to integrate that knowledge, promotes healing, and prevents it from happening again.
in positive experiencing, something good is either happening, and you would love to generate a continuous loop of good experience, or 〰 you are yearning for something good to happen 〰 haven't yet had a chance to witness it, but you have a vague idea of something you'd love to bring into your life.
౨ৎ good or bad 〰 the right words can fastforward us into the future ୭
⚘ they become an invocation ☥
